Suvarnavangam is a brand-name Ayurvedic drug produced in Kottakkal by Arya Vaidya Sala. Kottakkal Suvarnavangam is used to treat chronic bronchial disorders, emaciation, vomiting, anorexia, non-healing wounds, helminthiasis, premature ejaculation, nocturnal emission, cough, cold, bronchitis, and asthma.
Tin and sulphur are the two main ingredients in the Kottakkal Suvarnavangam medicine, and there are also minute amounts of mercury, iron, and aluminium. Since the beginning of time, Gandhak has been utilised in Ayurveda to cure a range of illnesses.
It cannot be used by the body because it is a free element. Therefore, in Ayurveda, it undergoes detoxification to obtain Shuddha Gandhak before being administered Bhavana of herbal substances to make it usable. For the preparation of Ras-Aushadhy, Shuddha Gandhak is blended with Shuddha Parad or refined mercury.
Almost all diseases use it in conjunction with mercury. It is made using a unique kupipakwa process. 6 parts of purified parada and 12 parts of liquid vanga are ground together. This was combined with 8 parts of pure gandhaka and repeatedly triturated to create kajjali, a uniform mixture of a dark black colour.
This kajjali was once again ground with lime juice and navasadara. An amber-coloured glass container with a 750 ml capacity was filled with this combination. The bottle was heated while covered in mud-smeared fabric. The golden-coloured powder was collected after cooling. Gandhaka is detoxified by being fried in ghee and then dipped in cow's milk seven times.
Vanga must be heated and submerged for seven days in each of the following liquids: sesame oil, buttermilk, cow's urine, gruel, and a decoction of kulatha (Dolichos biflorus). Ayurvedic medicine Swarna-Vanga is mostly used to treat Pramehas (genitor metabolic and urine problems), Sveta Pradara (leucorrhoea), Kasa-Swasa (respiratory disorders), etc.
